Home General rules CE marking of products

CE marking of products

Manufacturers supplying products to the market must guarantee that they are safe. It must be guaranteed that products comply with the EU safety, health and environmental requirements. Manufacturer is held responsible for conformity assessment, preparation of technical documentation, preparation of conformity declaration and CE marking of products. Once all these actions are completed, only then a product can be placed on the EU market.

To mark a product with CE sign, manufacturer must complete the following steps:

  1. Determine which directives and harmonised standards are prepared for the product;
  2. Present special requirements of the product;
  3. Check, if independent conformity assessment is required (notified institution);
  4. Test the product and check its conformity;
  5. Prepare appropriate technical documentation;
  6. Mark the product with CE sign and prepare conformity declaration.

The steps may differ depending on the product and requirements applied to it.

The list of product groups subject to mandatory CE marking is available here

IMPORTANT! If harmonised standards are not prepared for the product and it is not required by an appropriate directive, manufacturer may not mark a product with CE and must observe the general rules and other national legal acts.
